Wendy Amos

Body Conditioning

Wendy Amos is a New York City native and was educated at the Dalton School; Pratt Institute (BFA); and Teacher's College, Columbia University (MA in Dance Education). She was awarded a full scholarship and apprenticeship with the Dance Theater of Harlem, and a scholarship at The Ailey School.  She became a movement specialist trained by Kathy Grant in the Pilates Method.  She was selected by Alvin Ailey to be the coordinator and core teacher of the New Visions Dance Project for the sight impaired. She was awarded the Outstanding Educator of the Year (1986) by Very Special Arts, held at the Kennedy Center, Washington, DC. In 1992, she was awarded the NYC Artist in Dance by Very Special Arts, at Gracie Mansion.
She has taught Master Classes in multiple somatic techniques in the NYC Department of Education, at the university level, in private and public dance schools, dance companies (domestic and internationally), for private clients, and various arts institutions. She is the Founder/Director of Computer Relief, corporate stress management. She has been a faculty member at Ballet Academy East, Marymount Manhattan College (anatomy), Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, The Juilliard School, Columbia University Teachers College, New York University, The Harbor Conservatory, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Lighthouse International and at The Ailey School where she has developed and taught a course in Body Conditioning for over 40 years.
