Sofia Nappi

KOMOCO

Sofia Nappi was born in Florence, Italy and started her dance training at Centro Studio Danza in Chiavari. At the age of 17, she moved to Vancouver, Canada and trained in Byme Creek Dance Company under the direction of Shannon Tirling, where she earned a special honor in Choreography. Sofia furthered her training at The Ailey School, graduating from the Certificate Program in 2017. As a student, her choreography was showcased two years in a row. She broadened her training by participating in programs and projects such as San Francisco Conservatory of Dance in Forsythe Improvisional Techniques, Gaga Intensives in Tel Aviv, Israel and in Italy, b12 performance projects in in Berlin, Germany, and in Hofesh Shechter Company Intensives in Italy. Sofia has performed works by artists such as Maxine Doyle, Alessio Silvestrin, Alex Ketley, Jon Ole Olstad, Brice Mousset, Alvin Ailey, Earl Mosley, Clifton Brown, Sidra Bell, Netta Yerushalmy, Juel D. Lane, and Robert Moses.

Sofia has been honored with several choreography awards including, 3rd Prize at the 2018 Netherlands Choreography Competition for her project entitled "Komorebi Collab", the Partner Introdans Award at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition 2021, the 1st Prize, the Critics' Award and the Production Award from the Tanja Liedtke Foundation & the Artistic Director Marco Goecke of the Staatstheater Hannover at the prestigious 35th International Choreography Competition Hannover 2021. She is the founder and artistic director of KOMOCO, a project-based dance company based in Italy.
