Nancy Turano

Ballet

Nancy Turano has a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase. She trained with Alfredo Corvino and was principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico and Buglisi/Foreman Dance. She has been the Artistic Director of New Jersey Dance Theater Ensemble (NJDTE) since 1994 and is current Chair of YOUNGARTS. She was also founding director of Harkness Youth Ballet at the 92nd St.Y in New York.  Her awards include Outstanding Alumni by Chancellor of SUNY Schools, and NJSCA Governors Award and Distinguished Teacher Award.  Ms. Turano's choreography credits include 23 original works for NJDTE.  She has also choreographed for the Swedish National Ballet School, Luna Negra Dance Theater, The Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, Harkness Youth Ballet, as well as television episodes of Law and Order, and the films Carmen for PBS, and Tango Octogenario, presented at New Directors/New Films at Lincoln Center.  Ms. Turano has taught ballet classes for companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Ballet Hispanico, Aspen Ballet, National Ballet of Panama, Teatro San Martin Argentina, and Bat-Dor. She has taught at the Swedish National Ballet School, Vancouver Arts Umbrella, New York University, SUNY Purchase, and The Ailey School since 1996.
