Mitsuko Verdery

Mitsuko Verdery is a New York bred performance, dance and visual artist. She received her BFA in Visual Art from Carnegie Mellon University and is an alum of the Independent Study Program at The Ailey School. Mitsuko is the Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director of MICHIYAYA Dance Company, Inc., an all-women contemporary dance theater company based in New York City.  Mitsuko has shown her visual and performance work at the Brooklyn Museum, Andy Warhol Museum, Miller Gallery, BRIC Arts Media Gallery, Heath Gallery, among others. She has worked with choreographers and artists such as Ronald K. Brown, Sidra Bell, Earl Mosley, Jacquyln Buglisi, Francesca Harper, Alex Ketley, Kathleen Kelley and slowdanger. Mitsuko is a National Silver Medal Winner of “Excellence in Photography” from the Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. She is also a recipient of Carnegie Mellon’s Emily Phyllis Howard and Wilfred Readio Awards.
