Clement Mensah

Battery Dance Company; Fist and Heel Performance Group

Clement Mensah was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa. He moved to the Netherlands at the age of 11 where he graduated from COIS (Sports Academy) and the Amsterdam School of the Arts. In 2007, he was awarded a scholarship to study at The Ailey School as an exchange student. He performed with the Ailey Student Performance Group (SPG) and apprenticed with with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company in 2008. He has performed with the Francesca Harper Project, Ron K. Brown/EVIDENCE, A Dance Company, as guest artist with Jose Limón Dance Company, and toured internationally as a member of Elisa Monte Dance Company for two years. In 2009, Clement joined the Matthew Westerby Company and led the hugely successful Project Poetry Live! in partnership with Litchfield Performing Arts in Connecticut.  He is the founder of the outreach project Off the Radar, which has brought dance to underserved communities in Cambodia, Jacksonville, FL, and elsewhere. After receiving his MA degree in Dance Performance at Trinity Laban School of Contemporary Music and Dance in London, he returned to the U.S. and joined Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group, and Battery Dance Company, performing, choreographing, and teaching world-wide since 2012.
