Carolyn Schmidt

49th Parallel Dance Company

Carolyn Schmidt is a Vancouver Island born Contemporary Dance Artist and Educator. She received her formal training at The School of Alberta Ballet, University of Calgary Contemporary Dance Program, and The Ailey School where she is a graduate of the Certificate Program. A lifelong student of dance, Carolyn has studied and continues to study with many respected teachers including Milton Myers, Kazuko Hirabayashi, Dudley Williams, Peter Bingham, Peggy Baker and Helen Walkley. She is a professional member of Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists (CADA) and The British Columbia Dance Educators Alliance (BCDEA). Carolyn has also worked with companies including The MoveShop (NYC), Triadic Dance Works (Vancouver) and 49th Parallel Dance Company (NYC) where she was Co-Artistic Director from 2010 - 2014. Her choreography has been presented and/or supported by Dumbo Dance Festival, Young Choreographers Festival, Alberta Dance Alliance, Vancouver Fringe Festival, Mascall Dance "BLOOM", Jennifer Muller/The Works "HATCH" series, and Project CPR/Restless Productions. Currently Carolyn is working as an independant choreographer and performer in Vancouver, BC, along with producing events through her emerging organization, To.Be.Announced.
