Ariel Asch

Indie-Ballet Collaborative

Ariel Asch, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is Artistic Director of the indie-ballet collaborative, a contemporary and improvisational collaborative of musicians and dancers. Ariel received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with Honors from the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance Program. Her work has been shown at Symphony Space, Dance New Amsterdam, Center for Performance Research, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Fordham University and Producers Club with True False Theater, Carte Blanche Studio Theatre with NomadicLimbs Dance Collective, Perceptions Dance Festival, and various community gardens as part of New York Restoration Project's series: Arts in the Garden. Ariel also has choreographed stage combat for True False Theater's production of BEDSPREAD and HB Studio's production for RIMERS OF ELDRITCH. As a teaching artist, Ariel is an improvisation/composition faculty member at Joffey Ballet School's Jazz and Contemporary Program, and Movement for Actors Faculty at HB Studio. She has spent 2 summers as faculty for Milwaukee High School of the Arts where she teaches Ballet for Contemporary Dancers and Modern, and is looking forward to joining the Summer Intensive Staff at Milwaukee Ballet School this year to teach Composition and set work. Since founding indie-ballet in 2011, Ariel looks at it as an opportunity to create and explore the exchange between dance and other art forms in an accessible, communal, and sustainable way.
