Alonso Guzman

FKJ Dance; Peridance Ensemble

Alonso Guzman, native from Puerto Rico, started studying Tae Kwon Doh at the age of 7. Later on he included Muai Thai and some Capoeira in his physical training. At the age of 15 he reached his black belt and owned numerous gold medals from local and national competitions including one from the US Open Mix Martial Arts. Around the same age he started showing interest in dance. He joined School for the Performing Arts in Puerto Rico and studied classical and modern dance. Because of his strength and flexibility, he quickly rose up to become a dancer with the school’s dance company, Dramadanza. At 17, he moved to New York City to deepen his dance knowledge. He was awarded with the Oprah Winfrey Foundation Scholarship and the Olive Tree Foundation Scholarship to study at The Ailey School for 3 years. After his intensive training in Ailey, Alonso had the opportunity to work with Ballet Hispanicos 2nd company- BHdos, The Contemporary Dance Program at Jacob’s Pillow, Steps Repertory Ensemble, Oui Danse, The Deborah Abel Dance Company, The Kuperman Brothers, Dardo Galleto’s New Generation Dance Company and much more.

Under the direction of Milton Myers he demonstrated the Horton Technique for senior students in The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, The Ailey first company members, and Steps on Broadway.
