Jenny Siu-kan Chiang

Indonesia born, Jenny went to China at age twelve with a Beijing Dance Academy scholarship. During the Cultural Revolution she labored in the rice paddies two years before being called back to Beijing as a soloist with China National Ballet. She made her way to England where she danced with the Northern Ballet Theatre as their prima ballerina for twelve years. She guested at companies and galas around the world. She was the first Beijing-trained ballerina with successful careers in China and the West. Since her retirement from performing, she has taught ballet at Dance Theatre of Harlem, Juilliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, the Vail International Dance Festival, and Marymount Manhattan College. She has coached students for international competitions, has choreographed and staged a number of ballets, and has been ballet mistress for the Eglevsky Ballet. Has taught at Ailey since 2005.
