Junior Division Admissions
Pre-Professional Scholarship Program (ages 15-17)
Acceptance to the Scholarship Program is by audition only, held every semester at The Ailey School. Students must re-audition annually in order to maintain their Scholarship. Auditionees should be prepared to take ballet and modern classes. Please view the School dress code for appropriate audition attire. Scholarship support may be extended for as long as five years for those who enroll while still in high school.
First Steps and Bounding Boys (ages 3-6)
No auditions are required for these introductory courses. Classes are held on Saturdays or Sundays from September – May. Click here for class schedule.
Enrollment is determined on a first-come, first-serve basis starting in August. Very limited space is available. Please email juniordivision@alvinailey.org to find out availability or to be placed on a waiting list. Please include the following: your name, child’s name & date of birth, best contact phone number and class time preference. Please note the waiting list will be valid now – November 2012 only.
Pre-Professional Program (ages 7-17)
All new students are required to audition for acceptance and for class placement level. The audition will be a short ballet class. Students should wear a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes, according to the School dress code. A class schedule will be determined at the conclusion of the audition for accepted students. Because of the size of the program, we regret we cannot make alternate arrangements if students cannot attend the fall audition.
Parents should complete the Pre-Professional Application Form and bring to the audition.
Payment of the annual registration fee and tuition will be required on the Audition / Registration Day to reserve the student's place in the program.
Summer Intensive Program (ages 11-15)
Dancers may audition for acceptance through a Live Audition or By Application.
Live Audition
- Check the Audition Schedule to find the audition location closest to you.
- Register online for your audition and pre-pay $20 audition fee. Print and bring receipt to audition.
- Print and complete a Pre-Professional Application Form to bring with you.
Online registration is highly encouraged, but onsite registration will also be available.
By Application
Students unable to travel to an audition may apply to the Summer Intensive Program by submitting:
- A completed Pre-Professional Application Form
- A 10-15 minute DVD, showcasing ballet ability: barre, center work, and a brief combination traveling across the floor
- Two dance photographs: Tendu à la Seconde and First Arabesque
- Two letters of recommendation, preferably from a ballet and a modern/jazz instructor
- Register online and pay the $20 audition fee. Print and bring receipt to the audition.
