The Ailey School's Junior Division offers a diverse range of dance training classes and performance opportunities for students from beginner to pre-professional.
Programs & Classes
|First Steps||A creative and enjoyable introduction to dance for boys and girls ages 3-6|
|Bounding Boys||An extension of the First Steps program, offering a creative, athletic experience for young boys, ages 4-6|
|Ailey Athletic Boys Dance||Unique curriculum of athletic dance training for boys ages 7-10, no experience required|
|Pre-Professional Program||Diverse dance curriculum for experienced dancers, ages 7-17. Audition required.|
|Summer Intensive Program||5-week intensive training program for students ages 11-15. Audition required.|
|Teen Extension||High energy, fun classes for teens between the ages of 12 – 17. No prior dance experience is required.|
|Pre-Professional Scholarship Program||Training for high-potential dancers ages 15-17. Audition required.|
Students of all ages and levels are provided exciting and enriching performance experiences as a part of the Junior Division programs.
Students of the First Steps and Bounding Boys programs highlight their accomplishments in their special presentation at The Ailey Citigroup Theater. The performance also demonstrates the levels of progression within the programs.
The Pre-Professional programs culminate in the annual Junior Division Spring Concert, which includes students in Levels 1-7. Each class showcases at least two of the techniques they have studied during the year. Select Junior Division students are also provided the opportunity to perform with students in The Ailey School's Professional Division each semester, as well as at our Spring Concerts with members of Ailey II and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
