Michael Mustafa Ulmer is a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist born in Detroit, MI who is continuously wielding his artistry as jazz pianist and percussionist while perfecting his hypnotic drone grooves on the Didjeridoo. Son of the iconic guitarist James Blood Ulmer, Young ‘Blood’ Ulmer also owns his vocal prowess as a baritone singer, balancing his roles as a music director, songwriter, composer and music educator. Mustafa graduated from Indiana University’s School of Music with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, with a concentration in voice. Living in New York City for the past 20 years, Mustafa has had the great opportunity of recording, performing, and touring with amazing New York based artists including, his father James Blood Ulmer, the singer/griot storyteller Nana Camille Yarbrough, and choreographer Donald McKayle. He continues to build, share and expand his mission as a Teaching Artist/Accompanist in New York City public and private school organizations such as Def Dance Jam Workshop, Manhattan Country School and The Ailey School.
